Notes:

  1. 2-way and 3-way J-boxes are for maintenance use only, do not use for new construction.
  2. Due their comparatively high cost and large size, especially their extension from the vault wall, 5-way J-boxes (T1603A) are intended to be used only for modification of existing 4-way installations where one additional tap is needed and minimum vault size requirements can be met, as indicated below. For totally new construction, if one 4-way junction does not provide a sufficient number of taps, it is recommended that an additional 4-way junction vault be installed and that a primary jumper be installed between the two vaults.
  3. For subsurface installations of 200A J-boxes, specify the following concrete vault Compatible Units:

4'-8" x 7'-0" x 4'-0" w/ 12"H double diamond plate cover - doors open side-by-side on one of the 7'-0" sides of the vault (Mount one 5-way on the same side of the vault as the covers are hinged and mount one 5-way on each end wall.)
  4. Do not install 4-way or 5-way J-boxes in the following vaults:
    • 4'-0" x 6'-0" x 3'-6" combination transformer/J-box vault (V0304)
    • 4'-8" x 4'-8" x 3'6" vault containing two 4-way J-boxes (V0203)
  5. For pad-mounted installations of 200A J-boxes, specify the following cabinet and vault Compatible Units:

  6. Consult with Standards for guidance in the use of 600A J-boxes (T1604), which are for special applications only. Normally, 3Ø 600A J-box installations should be made in 6'-8" x 12'-8" x 8'-0" deep vaults with a triple diamond plate cover (V0210). For taking a 200A tap off of a 600A bushing use bushing adapter T1609.
