Notes:

  1. Use automatic splices for full tension applications only. Do not use automatics in slack or reduced tension spans as a poor connection will result. When installed and operated with insufficient tension, automatics will not achieve and maintain adequate jaw set to provide a good connection free of radio noise.
  2. Use of automatics for splicing District transmission conductors is prohibited unless other- wise authorized by the District's Transmission Engineering Group.
  3. Use semi-tension neutral service compression sleeves Z1202 and Z1203, respectively, for splicing #4 and #2 ACSR primary slack or reduced tension spans. These sleeves have a minimum holding strength rating of 40% of the breaking strength of the conductor.
  4. With the exception of #4 and #2 ACSR (see Note 3), when splicing primary slack or reduced tension spans, use full tension overhead compression sleeves as listed in Compatible Units Z0801 - Z0814.
  5. Unless otherwise specified by the District, all full tension conductor splices shall be at least 5 ft from supports after conductor is clipped-in and shall be at least 5 ft with respect to distribution, and 15 ft with respect to transmission, from any deadend or compression fittings. Splices shall be avoided in crossing over major communication lines, railroads and highways.
