- A ground plate must be installed a minimum of 5' deep to be considered a made electrode suitable for grounding equipment such as transformers and j-boxes. Cover the ground plate with tamped select backfill. If vault is to be backfilled with gravel or sand, bury the ground plate below the backfill or install 5/8" x 8' ground rod(s) per Compatible Unit N0303 (1-ground rod) or N0304 (2-ground rods).
- Ground plates are preferred for grounding installed during vault installation. Use ground rods for grounding vaults already set and backfilled, refer to Compatible Unit page N0303 - N0304.
- Two grounds are required for j-box vaults and end of lateral vaults; refer to Compatible Units N0302 (2-ground plates) and N0304 (2-ground rods).
