- Wrap ground plate around pole next to pole butt and attach with 3-1/2" steel nails. Ground plate must be installed a minimum of 5' deep to be considered a made electrode suitable for grounding equipment such as transformers. Cover plate with tamped select backfill. If pole is to be backfilled with gravel or rocks bury plate below backfill or install a 5/8" ground rod per Compatible Unit N0101.
- Install grounding tag at eye level next to ground wire moulding. This tag signifies the pole is grounded per NESC Article 094.
- Place the ground wire on the same side of the pole as the neutral conductor and in the quadrant outside of the climbing space. If the neutral is located in the primary position, extend ground wire moulding up through the supply space and connect to neutral as shown in figure 1.
- Staple Copperweld ground wire to pole every 6" for first 8' above ground. Staple ground wire every 2' from 8' above ground to neutral.
- Ground plates are preferred for grounding new poles. Use ground rods to ground existing poles. Refer to Compatible Units N0101 and N0102.
