1. Scope
This specification applies to the polyethylene tags illustrated above. These tags will be used primarily for cable labeling applications inside padmounted electrical equipment and subsurface vaults and handholes.
2. Material ID Numbers

3. Configuration and Size
Tags shall be of the configuration and size shown in the above figures. Mounting slots shall be sized to accommodate plastic tie straps 0.135” wide x 0.050” thick.
4. Colors
The tags illustrated by Figures 1-7 shall be yellow with bold black text. The yellow color shall be Pantone 108 CV or equivalent. The tags illustrated by Figures 8 and 9 shall be orange with bold black text. The orange color shall be Pantone 021 C or equivalent. The tag illustrated by Figure 10 shall be yellow, Pantone 108 CV or equivalent, and shall be blank with no text copy. The tag illustrated by Figure 11 shall be white with bold black text copy.
5. Characters
Character print style shall be sharp, plain (such as Helvetica) and easy to read. Characters shall be upper case, a minimum 3/16” tall. Characters shall be heat stamped and imprinted into the surface of the tag to enhance permanence.
6. Material
Tags shall be made of durable, weather-resistant, 0.030” thick polyethylene with UV inhibitors to reduce fading in sunlight. Tags shall be resistant to degradation by water, petroleum solvents and greases. Tags shall be mildew resistant.
Tags shall be designed for withstanding operating temperatures in the range of minus 10°F to plus 167°F. Tag material shall be suitable for writing on legibly with a permanent fine point marker such as a Sanford Sharpie®.
7. Durability
Tags shall be resistant to damage from the normal bending and twisting motions associated with cable training. Tags shall have a durability rating of ten years minimum, inside an outdoor handhole or enclosure and five years minimum, with direct outdoor exposure.
8. Identification
Manufacturer’s name or logo shall be clearly marked on each package of tags.
9. Packaging
Tags shall be packaged 25 tags per bag in clear polyethylene resealable Ziplock bag.
