1. Scope

This specification applies to polymer miniature marking tags and tag holders. The primary use of these materials will be for labeling 600V rated underground secondary cables terminated in pad-mounted transformers and in subsurface handholes and vaults, all of which are located outdoors.

2. Size

Marker tags shall be 0.373-inches square with a 0.035-inch thick base and 0.1875-inch high x 0.035-inch thick three dimensional characters as shown in Figure 1. Nominal size of holder shall be 1/2-inch high x 3-inches long.
Holders shall be sized to accept six of the miniature marker tags, maximum. Holders shall be equipped with a pair of rectangularly shaped slotted holes at each end to acommodate plastic tie straps having a maximum width of 0.135-inch, as shown in Figure 2.

3. Character Legibility

Numeric and alphabetic characters shall be made of a hot-stamping process. Characters shall be sharp, hgih relief, and three-dimensional to ensure high legibility even when coated with dirt, mud, oil, etc. Character print style shall be plain and easy to read, e.g. Helvetica. Alphabetic characters shall be upper-case style.

4. Color

Numeric and alphabetic marker tags shall be bright yellow throughout with raised characters which are black on their top surface. "Blank" marker tags shall be yellow throughout. "Holders" for marker tags shall be black throughout.

5. Material

Marker tags and holders shall be made of durable, weather-resistant polymeric materials. Holders shall be UV-resistant.
Holders shall be pliable to resist tearing and to hold the marker tags in place when cable is subjected to the normal bending and twisting motions associated with cable training.

6. Outdoor Durability

Tags and holders shall have an outdoor durability rating of 20-years, minimum, when installed on cable located in padmounted transformers and subsurface cable termination handholes and vaults.

7. Resistance to Degradation

Markers, tags, and holders shall be resistant to degradation by water, petroleum solvents, and greases.

8. Application Temperature Range

0° - 104° F

9. Operating Temperature Range

(-10°) - 167° F

10. Identification

The manufacturer's name or logo shall be clearly marked on each box in which marker materials are packaged.

11. Packaging

Marker tags and tag holders shall be packaged in clear polyethylene resealable ziplock bags to help keep them clean and organized. Marker tags shall be provided on polymer cards, similar to the illustration in Figure 1, such that they can be individually pulled off as needed. Tag removal from the cards shall be easily and neatly accomplished without the use of tools. Each card shall hold 25 tags. Cards shall be packaged 10 cards per bag. Tag holders shall be packaged 100 per bag.
