1. Scope

This specification applies to flag type cable tags as illustrated above.

2. Material ID Numbers

This specification applies to the following District Material ID numbers:

890261 Yellow Tag "Blank" (Figure 1)

1000538 Blue Tag "Cable Injection, Treated __/__/__" (Figure 2)

890279 Red Tag "Customer Owned Service" (Figure 3)

3. Application

Tags will be used primarily for labeling insulated cables in locations such as padmount transformers, subsurface vaults and subsurface handholes.

4. Physical Characteristics

Tags shall be made of 18 oz. nylon-reinforced vinyl and shall be highly resistant to ripping and tearing. Tags and preprinted text shall not be damaged by electrical joint compound, silicone lubricant, transformer oil, water and termperatures in the range of 0° - 200° F. Blank tags (Figure 1) shall be bright yellow. "Cable Injection" tags (Figure 2) shall be blue with black lettering. "Customer Owned Service" tags (Figure 3) shall be red with black lettering.

5. Size and Labeling Requirements

Tags shall have a 4" x 1-3/4" area for writing (Figure 1) or preprinted text (Figure 2). Preprinted tags shall be printed with a highly weather and fade-resistant black ink in block letters a minimum of 1/4" high. Tags shall be suitable for writing on with a Sharpie #3000 "Fine Point Permanent Marker" or an equivalent marker pen. Tags shalled be equipped with an intergral strap sized to fit around cable up to 1-1/2" O.D. Strap shall have serrated edges designed for securing the tag in place without taping or tying.

6. Marking Pen Equipment

One Sharpie #3000 "Fine Point Permanent Marker" (a black carbon tip pen manufactured by Sanford Pen Company) shall be provided with each package of one hundred blank yellow flag tags or one hundred blue "Cable Injection" tags.

7. Packaging

Tags shall be packaged to protect them from moisture and dirt in Zip-Lock type resealable, clear polyethylene bags (25 labels per bag).
