1. Scope
This specification applies to flat-surfaced, adhesive-backed labels as illustrated above in Figure 1. The backing of each label shall be scored for easy removal. These labels shall be designed for temporary indoor or outdoor application on smooth clean painted surfaces. Labels shall be easily removable without damaging the surface they are applied to.
2. Material ID Number
This specification applies to District Material ID Number 1002210.
3. Size
Labels shall be 1-1/2" high x 6" wide.
4. Font
Copy legend shall be Helvetica-Narrow Bold.
5. Color
UV resistant yellow opaque background with black copy.
6. Material
Labels shall be made of 0.002" polyester.
7. Adhesive
Labels shall include a Pressure Sensitive adhesive backing. Labels must be suitable for application without the necessity of additional adhesive coats on the label or application surface and without the use of water, solvents or heat. The protective liner attached to the adhesive shall be an easy-release type. It shall be removable by peeling without soaking in water or other solvents. The protective liner shall be easily removed after accelerated storage of the label for 4 hours at 180°F. Removal shall require a maximum pull of 0.25 pounds per lineal inch of width. The precoated pressure sensitive adhesive shall adhere by pressing it in contact with a clean dry surface. It shall form a durable bond to clean, well-painted surfaces, or unpainted corrosion-proof metals. The precoated adhesive, after 48 hours of aging at 75°F, shall have no appreciable effect on the label material. The precoated adhesive shall have no staining effect on the label material. The adhesive shall be mildew-resistant.
8. Adhesion
The minimum adhesion rating shall be 5 lb/in at 77°F.
9. Outdoor Durability
Three years minimum, with vertical exterior exposure.
10. Identification
The manufacturer’s name or logo and the date of production shall be clearly marked along the bottom left edge of each decal. The District's part number 1002210 shall be clearly marked along the bottom right edge of each decal. Markings shall be in a small legible font so as not to detract from the sign's message.
11. Packaging
Decals shall be packaged to protect them from moisture and dirt in Zip-Lock type resealable, clear polyethylene bags (25 labels per bag).
