1. Scope

This specification applies to the flat-surfaced aluminum signs illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2. These signs will be used outdoors on various surfaces.

2. Size

Sign shall be 4-1/2" tall x 12" wide.

3. Font

Copy legend on both signs shall be Helvetica Narrow Bold, or District approved equivalent.

4. Color

UV resistant black opaque copy on a yellow reflective background.

5. Material

3M 3271 yellow Engineering Grade Reflective film, laminated to 0.04" aluminum backing. Sign shall have 9 thru holes 1/8" in diameter spaced as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. Aluminum backing plate, including holes, shall have no protrusions, sharp edges, or corners.

6. Adhesive

Labels shall include a High Tack Pressure Sensitive adhesive backing. Labels must be suitable for application without the necessity of additional adhesive coats on the label or application surface and without the use of water, solvents, or heat.
The precoated pressure sensitive adhesive shall adhere by pressing it in contact with a clean dry surface. It shall form a durable bond to clean, well painted surfaces, or unpainted corrosion-proof metals. The precoated adhesive, after 48 hours of aging at 75° F, shall have no appreciable effect on the label material. The precoated adhesive shall have no staining effect on the label material. The adhesive shall be mildew resistant.

7. Attachment of Labels

Labels shall be smoothly attached to the backing material for maximum adhesion. Labels shall be applied in a craftsperson-like manner on a properly cleaned and prepared surface. Labels shall be free of air bubbles, lifting or pealing (curled) edges or corners.

8. Outdoor Durability

Five years minimum, with exterior exposure.

9. Solvent Resistance

Sign shall be resistant to degradation by petroleum solvents and greases.

10. Storage Stability

Ten years minimum under normal storage conditions (75° F, 50% relative humidity). Material must be mildew resistant.
