1. Scope

This specifi cation applies to the fl at-surfaced aluminum signs illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
These signs will be used outdoors on various surfaces.

2. Size

Horizontal sign in Fig. 1 shall be 3" tall x 19" wide, Vertical sign in Fig. 2 shall be 34" tall x 3" wide. Copy legend on both signs shall be Helvetica Narrow Bold, or District approved equivalent, 2" in height.

3. Color

Black UV inhibited copy legend on a yellow engineering grade UV inhibited refl ective background.

4. Material

3M 3271 yellow Engineering Grade Refl ective fi lm, laminated to .04" aluminum backing.
Horizontal sign shall have 10 thru holes 1/8" in diameter spaced as shown in Fig. 1. Vertical sign shall ahve 12 thru holes 1/8" in diameter spaced as shown in Fig. 2. Aluminum backing plate, including holes, shall have no protrusions, sharp edges, or corners.

5. Attachment of Labels

Labels shall be smoothly attached to the backing material for maximum adhesion. Labels shall be applied in a craftsperson-like manner on a properly cleaned and prepared surface. Labels shall be free of air bubbles, lifting, or peeling (curled) edges or corners.

6. Outdoor Durability

Five years minimum, with exterior exposure.

7. Solvent Resistance

Sign shall be resistance to degradation by petroleum solvents and greases.

8. Storage Stability

Ten years minimum under normal storage conditions (75° F, 50% relative humidity). Material must be mildew resistant.

9. Packaging

Signs shall be packaged to protect them from damage during shipping and handling.

11. Material ID Number

This specification applies to the following District Material ID Numbers: 1001562 (Horizontal sign) & 1001563 (Vertical sign).
