1. Scope

This specification applies to a one-piece, rectangular, tapered, heavy-duty fiberglass vault (boxpad) configured similar to the above drawings. These vaults will be used as mounting bases for 1Ø padmount transformers and J-box cabinets. They will be direct buried in soil with the upper few inches exposed.

2. Material ID Number

This specification applies to District Material ID number 766230.

3. Weight and Dimensions

The vault shall have a maximum weight of 120 lbs. The vault shall be dimensioned similar to the drawings shown above.
At the District's discretion, vaults with dimensions slightly different than those shown may be considered acceptable.

4. Finish

The vault shall have a smooth, void free surface finish. Color shall be dark green Munsell No. 7GY 3.29/1.5.

5. Material

The vault shall be fabricated of fiberglass using fire-retardent resin and additives to meet a Class II flame retardancy rating. Glass content shall not be less than 33%. The exterior shall be covered with a gel-coat containing UV stabilizers, pigment and weather-resistant resins. The vault shall be free of sharp edges and protruding fibers.

6. Strength

A 6,000 lb (minimum) padmount transformer load shall not result in deflection greater than 1/4" or permanent damage of any kind. Vault sidewalls shall be designed to withstand continuous pressure of the adjacent earth and the short-term pressure of a 2,500 lb. wheel load applied to the soil adjacent to the pad.

7. Durability

The vault shall have a minimum outdoor durability rating of thirty years when installed and exposed to the maritime climate of the Puget Sound region. The vault shall be resistant to damage from normal shipping and handling.

8. Mounting Brackets

Each vault shall be shipped with two mounting brackets designed to secure and prevent accidental movement of padmounted equipment placed on the vault. Mounting brackets shall be fabricated per District Material Standard 1000688.1, Cat. ID 1000688, latest revision.

9. Packaging

Vaults shall be shipped neatly stacked (nested) upright on pallets, max. 10 vaults per pallet.
