1. Scope

This Material Standard covers the requirements for aluminum grounding horns for substation equipment grounding applications.

2. Material ID Numbers

This Material Standard applies to the grounding horn generally configured as shown in Figure 1.0 on page 2 of this document. The District has two variations of the grounding horn, each variation is assigned a separate Cat. ID and has its 2-hole connection pads welded to the grounding bar as shown in Figures 1.1 and 1.2 on page 2 of this document:

3. Reference Standard

The grounding horns shall be manufactured of aluminum alloy meeting the applicable requirements of the latest revision of the following industry standard:

ASTM B221 Standard Specification for Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Extruded Bars, Rods, Wire, Shapes and Tubes

4. Material

Grounding horns shall be manufactured of aluminum alloy 6061-T6511 per ASTM B221.

5. Dimensions

Grounding horns shall be dimensioned as shown in Figures 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 on page 2 of this document.

6. Packaging

Grounding horns shall be packaged in heavy duty cardboard boxes. Right-hand and left-hand grounding horns shall not be packaged together in the same box.

6.1 Weight

Package weight shall not exceed 50 lb.

6.2 Marking

The contents of each box shall be labeled with the manufacturer's identification and the quantity and type of grounding horn enclosed.

7. Shipping

Product shall be shipped to the address specified on the District's Purchase Order.

8. Inspection

The District reserves the right to inspect all products upon receipt. Grounding horns not conforming to this Material Standard, or damaged, will be rejected and returned at the Supplier’s expense. Acceptance of delivery does not relieve the Supplier from meeting all of the requirements of this Material Standard.
