1. Scope

This specification covers the requirements for furnishing and delivering socket bell end fittings for smooth-wall PVC plastic utilities conduit used for the underground installation of communication and electrical wire and cable.

2. Material ID Numbers

This specification applies to the District Material ID Numbers listed below. The corresponding size and type of conduits on which the bell end fittings shall be designed to fit are indicated. Bell end fittings shall be molded or fabricated types as specified.

3. Reference Standards

Except as modified herein, bell end fittings shall meet the applicable requirements of the latest revisions of:

ASTM F 512Standard Specification for Smooth-Wall Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Conduit and Fittings for Underground Installation
NEMA TC-2Electrical Plastic Tubing (EPT) and Conduit (EPC-40 and EPC-80)
NEMA TC-9 Fittings for ABS and PVC Plastic Utilities Duct for Underground Installation

4. Materials and Color

Fittings shall be made of PVC materials meeting the requirements of ASTM F 512. The 6 inch fabricated bell end, District Cat. ID 250762, shall be manufactured from 6 inch EPC-40 (Schedule 40) PVC conduit manufactured in accordance with NEMA TC-2. Fittings shall be medium to dark gray in color.

5. Dimensions

Molded bell end fittings shall be dimensioned in accordance with Figure 1, as specified in Section 2 above. The sole fabricated bell end fitting specified shall be dimensioned in accordance with Figure 2.

6. Workmanship

Fittings shall be homogeneous throughout and free from visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions, or other injurious defects. Fittings shall be as uniform as is commercially practical in color, opacity, density and other physical properties.

7. Product Marking

Fittings shall be marked in accordance with ASTM F 512. As a minimum, packaging markings shall indicate the manufacturer’s name, size and type of fitting, and number of fittings in the package.

8. Packaging

Fittings shall be packaged in heavy duty cardboard boxes in the quantities per package indicated in Section 2.
