1. Scope

This specification applies to expanding type duct plugs of the style illustrated above.

2. Application

Expanding type duct plugs will be used to seal unoccupied "blank" conduits entering enclosures such as vaults and handholes.

Duct plugs will be used to provide a reliable barrier against liquids, gases, small animals and silt to generally improve the quality of the underground work environment.

3. Material ID Numbers

This specification applies to the following District Material ID No.'s:

1000069 - 2" Duct Plug
1000071 - 3" Duct Plug
1000073 - 4" Duct Plug
1000074 - 6" Duct Plug

4. Materials

Duct plugs shall be completely free of metal parts. They shall be manufactured only of durable plastic and rubber materials to ensure resistance to corrosion and deterioration in a wet, underground environment.

5. Construction

Duct plugs shall be constructed of the parts shown in the above illustration. Duct plugs shall be easy to install and remove by hand and with a shotgun hotstick. They shall be equipped with a large eye nut to facilitate operation with a shotgun hotstick. Duct plugs shall be equipped with a pull tab with a ring-shaped hole to accommodate attachment of a pulling rope or tape.

6. Pressure Rating

After installation, duct plugs shall be watertight and airtight to a minimum pressure of 30 psi.

7. Duct Size Range

Duct plugs shall fit the following conduit ID's:

8. Packaging

Duct plugs shall be packaged in accordance with good commercial practice to ensure shipping and handling without damage.

They shall be packaged in uniform quantities per package for inventory purposes. Package weights shall not exceed 50 pounds per package.
