1. Scope

This specification applies to crossarm-mounted single pole disconnect switches for use on a 12.47 Grd-Y/7.2kV electrical distribution system.

2. Reference Standards

Except as modified herein, these switches shall meet the applicable requirements of the latest revisions of ANSI C37.32, ANSI C29.1, ANSI 29.9 and ASTM A-153.

3. Material ID Number

This specification applies to District Material ID Number 506769.

4. General

15kV 600A single pole disconnect switches shall be designed for crossarm mounting in vertical and inverted positions.

6. Mounting

6.1 Switches shall be designed for mounting on single and double crossarms with the following nominal cross-sections:

Arm Width 3-3/4” min. - 5-1/2” max.
Arm Height 2-11/16” min - 5-3/4” max.

6.2 Mounting base length shall be at least 24” long with mounting holes for attaching to double crossarms with up to 20” center-to-center spacing.

6.3 Each switch shall be provided with a one or two piece backplate and four 3/8” carriage bolts packaged with nuts, flat washers and lock washers.

6.4 Mounting base, backplate and all steel hardware shall be galvanized per ASTM A-153, latest revision.

7. Switches

7.1 Switches shall be equipped with tin-plated copper NEMA standard 2-hole terminal pads.

7.2 Switch contacts shall be silver-plated.

7.3 The switch blade stop shall be factory set to a 90° open position and shall be field adjustable to a 160° or 180° open position.

7.4 Switches shall be equipped with hooks for opening with the S&C Loadbuster tool.

8. Insulators

8.1 Switch mounting insulators shall conform to ANSI C29.1 and C29.9, latest revision.

8.2 Insulators shall be manufactured from polymeric material and shall be sky gray color, ANSI No. 70.

9. Packaging

9.1 Each switch, complete with mounting hardware, shall be individually packaged in a sturdy cardboard carton in accordance with the manufacturer’s commercial practice to ensure safe delivery without damage.

9.2 Mounting bolts, nuts, flat washers and lock washers shall be packaged together in clear plastic bags and placed in the same carton as the switch.

9.4 Switches shall be shipped on non-returnable wood pallets suitable for handling with a forklift.
