- Engineers are normally not required to specify cable tags. Tagging materials are considered as truck stock.
- Primary underground cable tag holders (Fig. 1) are sized to accommodate up to 6 horizontally oriented plastic tags.
- Cable tags installed on cables on riser poles or other outdoor locations should be secured using two wraps of #14 bare copper binding wire (MID 848517).
- Plastic cable tags installed in vaults or above-ground enclosures (padmounted transformers, switch cabinets, etc.) may be installed using either 11" black pull ties (MID 874538) or #14 bare copper binding wire. Do not use clear pull ties due to insufficient UV resistance and tensile strength.
- To minimize the chance of cable tags being pushed out of a tag holder (such as during high pressure spray cleaning) place the binding wire knot or plastic tie locking button on the face side of the tag holder.
- The District specifies that vault covers are to be equipped with a vault tag embedded in the concrete. The vault no. tags shown ere are for use in the event that a preinstalled vault tag is missing or damaged.
