- The preformed deadends used by the District are designed for installation on stranded bare conductor.
- Preformed deadends are designed for use only on smoothly contoured fittings which have adequate groove widths and diameters. They are not designed for deadending on eye-bolts.
- Preformed service cable deadends are designed for use on such fittings as porcelain spool insulators and wire-holders. Preformed line conductor deadends are designed for use on such fittings as porcelain spool insulators, strain insulators and thimble clevises. Contact Standards if there is any question about deadending on a particular fitting.
- Installing connectors over the legs of preformed deadends is not recommended.
- The loops of preformed service cable deadends should not be criss-crossed when two or more are applied to the same spool. Use of a service drop take-off insulator bracket (District MID 935512) can help avoid this situation.
- Preformed deadends should not be re-used after initial installation.
