Notes:

  1. Each pole key provides 276 square inches of additional bearing surface area.
  2. Pole keys should be used to support poles with unbalanced loads such as offset crossarms and equipment and unguyed conductor loads. Refer to T&D Guideline 4-6-1.3 for more information on unguyed pole limitations.

Installation Notes:

  1. Expanding pole key installation requires a 3/4" anchor rod (MID 902462) and a pole tamping bar ( MID 722901).
  2. Install the lowermost pole key by threading the key into the 3/4" anchor rod and lowering the key into the pole hole. The bottom key should rest against the pole butt on the opposite face from the direction the pole is to be loaded. Use the tamping bar to expand the key into solid earth. When the key is completely expanded, remove the anchor rod, then backfill and tamp the pole hole to within 2 feet of the surface. Install the second pole key on the opposite side of the pole using the same method as the first. Finish backfilling and tamping the pole hole.
